What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are a popular new service and technique that lengthens, thickens and enhances your own natural eyelashes. This innovative procedure involves attaching single strands of synthetic eye lashes, one by one, to your own individual eyelashes for a sumptuous dazzling look. The lashes are curved to replicate a natural eyelash, and comes in different lengths, thickness, and curl to suit the look you are after.
Does it hurt?
No - the lash extensions are attached to your own natural eyelashes, and not the eye lid and therefore does not hurt. Clients are required to lay back with their eyes closed whilst the procedure is carried out, and some even find it so relaxing that they fall asleep!
How long does it take?
Depending on the set chosen, a full set of eyelashes takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to apply. The techniques requires meticulous precision and the amount of time taken will depend on the number of eyelashes to be attached.
What do eyelash extensions look and feel like when applied?
Eyelash extensions when properly applied, look and feel like natural lashes (unlike traditional strip lashes). In fact, unless you look very closely, and with a trained eye, no one can tell that your extensions are not your natural lashes!
How long will my eyelash extensions last?
With proper application and aftercare, your lash extensions should last the full growth cycle of your natural eyelashes, and differs in duration from person to person. Your natural lashes are all at different stages of the growth cycle, and falls off every 45 to 60 days (taking with it your eyelash extension) and replaced with a new eyelash. Depending on your eyelashes and growth cycle, you will lose approximately 1 to 3 lashes per day. Other factors such as exposure to steam, touching and rubbing your eyelashes a lot will cause your extensions to fall out quicker. A touch up will be required to replace the lash extensions that have fallen off.
How often should I get touch-ups?
Touch-ups are recommended every 2-4 weeks to keep your lashes looking full and luscious. Any longer than this you may require a full set, however you decide when you want your lashes infilled.
Can I swim, shower and exercise or visit a spa whilst wearing eye lash extensions?
Yes, after 24 hours your lashes are waterproof. However, it is recommended to take special care when you do come in contact with water, such as wearing goggles when swimming and avoiding the direct jet of water onto the lashes when in the shower.
Can I apply mascara onto my eyelash extensions?
It is not necessary to wear mascara as your eye lash extensions would enhance your eyes and give the illusion of wearing mascara. However if you must wear mascara, it is advisable to use water based mascara - DO NOT USE OIL BASED OR WATER PROOF MASCARA. In addition, oil based eye makeup should be also be avoided. Powdered eye makeup with no oil based ingredients work well, and can double up as eye liner dipped in water. Do not use oil based eye makeup remover - only use water based. Oil based products can dissolve the bonding agent used on the extensions, causing the lashes to loosen and fall out sooner.
Can I use eyelash curlers on my eyelash extensions?
It is not recommended to use curlers on your eyelash extensions. Your extensions will already have a natural curl, however if you do need to use eyelash curlers it is recommended to use heated curlers.
I've read that eyelash extensions can damage your natural lashes. Is this true?
Applied properly, lash extensions should not damage your natural lashes. Reports in the press apply to lash technicians who are incompetent or unqualified - of which there are many about! 9 out of 10 clients who come to us with extensions done elsewhere are often in distress and require removal or emergency remedial work. Lash technicians who qualify should practice, practice and practice before advertising their services. Unfortunately, many do not. Please get your lashes done by someone who is recommended, or ask to see their portfolio.
